Working condition introduction
The Ferruginous Shale hardness < 20Mpa, and the mono-arm ripper construction efficiency is higher.

Solution
1. Working Conditions
Ferruginous Shale is rich in iron oxides, red-brown to purple-red, hardness ranging widely from 20-40MPa, some dense layers exceeding 45MPa. Iron content typically 5%-15%, reaching 25%+ in enriched zones with good comprehensive utilization value.
For ferruginous shale with variable hardness, select equipment based on actual hardness. Mono-arm ripper (C Series) for 20-30MPa; Separate-arm ripper (J Series) for ≥30MPa to maximize mining efficiency.
2. Recommended Equipment
Arm Type | Model | Excavator Tonnage | Hardness Range | Core Advantages |
Integrated (C Series) | CSJ400C | 40-65t | 20-28MPa | Compact structure, large working radius |
Integrated (C Series) | CSJ700C | 65-85t | 22-30MPa | High output, high efficiency |
Integrated (C Series) | CSJ900C | 85-95t | 25-32MPa | Strong penetration, wear-resistant design |
Separate (J Series) | CSJ400J | 40-65t | 30-35MPa | Concentrated breaking force, narrow faces |
Separate (J Series) | CSJ700J | 65-85t | 32-38MPa | High output, hard rock preferred |
Separate (J Series) | CSJ900J | 85-95t | 35-42MPa | Strong penetration, heavy hard rock |
Separate (J Series) | CSJ1200J | 120t | 38-50MPa | Extra-large breaking force, highest output |
3. Production Rate
Rock Hardness | CSJ400C/J (40-65t) | CSJ700C/J (65-85t) | CSJ900C/J (85-95t) | CSJ1200C/J (120t) |
20-28MPa (C Series) | 160-200m³/h | 180-220m³/h | 220-260m³/h | 260-300m³/h |
25-32MPa (C Series) | 130-170m³/h | 160-200m³/h | 200-240m³/h | 240-280m³/h |
30-35MPa (J Series) | 100-160m³/h | 140-180m³/h | 160-220m³/h | 200-260m³/h |
35-42MPa (J Series) | — | — | 130-180m³/h | 160-220m³/h |

Reference data from ripper field tests. Ferruginous shale hardness distribution is uneven; conduct multi-point sampling before construction.
4. Construction Process
· Geological Survey: Iron content varies; conduct multi-point sampling at different zones, test hardness and iron content of each layer
· Equipment Selection: Choose C Series for <30MPa; J Series for ≥30MPa based on test results
· Equipment Mobilization: Position the ripper, inspect hydraulic system, pins, and safety devices
· Layered Stripping: Strip from top to bottom along bedding, control layer thickness 300-500mm, avoid large block collapse
· Breaking & Screening: Screen through vibrating screen, control product size ≤350mm; high-iron fragments can be stacked separately for reuse
· Slope Trimming: Use the ripper for slope trimming to ensure stable and regular mining face
5. Efficiency Comparison
Item | Traditional Blasting
Daily Output (8h shift) | 700-1400m³
Comprehensive Cost | Explosives + detonators + permits + safety + labor
Safety Risk | High (flying rocks, vibration, long approval cycle)
Impact on Rock Layer | Damages bedding, over-crushing, iron loss
Environmental Compliance | Requires approval, heavy dust and noise pollution |
6. Construction Precautions
· Hardness Zoning is Essential: Conduct multi-point sampling before construction to avoid incorrect model selection
· Equipment Boundary: 30MPa is the division point — C Series below, J Series at or above 30MPa
· Iron Dust Protection: Iron-bearing dust is generated during breaking; equip workers with dust masks and dust suppression systems
· Equipment Corrosion: High iron content is corrosive; shorten hydraulic oil change interval (every 180h), regularly check pin wear
· Iron Reuse: High-iron fragments can be separately stacked and processed through magnetic separation for low-grade iron ore sale, reducing mining costs
